In connection with the incident earlier this week at a hospital in the southwest German city of Mannheim, the 72-year-old woman has been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted manslaughter.

Officials said that the suspect allegedly switched off the switch to the noisy equipment, which she was informed was essential for her 79-year-old roommate.

A joint press release by the Mannheim police and public prosecutor’s office revealed that the woman turned off the ventilator before 8pm because she “was disturbed by the noise coming from the oxygen device.”
