A Florida couple recently discovered their lost diamond engagement ring in their own toilet bowl after it vanished 21 years ago, just before their wedding.
Shaina Day of Lakeland, Florida, has had her doubts about the sinister object since the day her ring vanished.
The family told WFLA-TV in Tampa that they weren’t confirmed until this past November when her mother-in-law Renee replaced the toilet and discovered the diamond piece trapped in its porcelain tomb.
She once told me, “I think I lost my ring,” when she came to me. Shaina’s husband, Nick Day, spoke to the station. She remarked, “I think I may have flushed it down the toilet by accident. It was on the counter, now it’s gone.”
Shaina’s husband Nick Day said, “Shaina came to me one day and said, ‘I think I lost my ring,’ adding that ‘I think I may have flushed it down the toilet by accident. It was on the counter, now it’s gone.”‘
The couple searched everywhere, even in the septic system of their house. They made a brave but fruitless attempt to find the ring by pumping the entire tank through a strainer.
The diamond ring was lost for many years and might still be so today if Nick’s mother, Renee hadn’t decided to replace the toilet. Nick’s parents wrapped the ring after their discovery and gave it to the couple on Christmas.
Nick Day said that “both of us knew exactly what it was.”

Shaina claimed that the startling discovery instantly brought her to tears.
“It was kind of an ugly cry,” Shaina said. “I sat there and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is my ring. This is my ring.’ I’m wiping my eyes and mascara is going everywhere,” Shaina added.
Regarding what they will do about the ring, the couple said they might use the diamond in a new piece of jewelry or pass it on as – although hopefully after a thorough cleaning.
